The Standing Liberty Quarter was issued from 1916 to 1930. Many consider this coin to feature one of the most beautiful United States coin designs from the Renaissance era of US coinage. The design, featuring a standing image of Liberty holding a shield and olive branch, was created by Hermon A. MacNeil, a sculptor from Massachusetts. The reverse design features an eagle in flight. During the course of the Standing Liberty Quarter series, coins were minted at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints. The lowest mintage occurred with the 1916 coin, when only 52,000 were minted.

Barber Quarters were issued from 1892 to 1916. This new design replaced the Seated Liberty Quarter, which had been in place for over fifty years. The Barber Quarter was designed by Charles E. Barber. The obverse of the coin features a rendition of Liberty wearing a Phygian cap. The reverse features an eagle symbolizing the nation’s might. The eagle holds a bundle of arrows in one claw and an olive branch in the other. Over the course of the Barber Quarter series, coins were minted at Philadelphia, Denver, New Orleans, and San Francisco. There are three key date commonly associated with the series. These are the 1896-S, 1901-S, and 1913-S coins.

Special 90% silver versions of each of the 50 State Quarters were produced by the US Mint and sold to collectors. The US Mint had been making a special 90% silver proof set since 1992. This continued in 1999, when the State Quarters series began. Each Silver State Quarter was included as part of the annual silver proof set. Later in the series, a separate Silver Proof State Quarters Set was issued. The coin specifications of the silver state quarters match pre-1965 circulating silver quarter dollar composition.

The 50 State Quarters series was created to issue circulating commemorative quarter dollar coins for each state in the order they joined the Union. This ambitious ten year program is often credited with bringing new life to the hobby of coin collecting and inspiring interest in collecting coins from pocket change. The obverse of the State Quarters used a modified version of the obverse from the prior Washington Quarters series. The reverse featured a design which highlighted the unique aspects of the state being honored. The series began by honoring Delaware in 1999 and concluded with Hawaii in 2009.
